The most common deployment of First Archive combines the powerful ZANTAZ Enterprise Archive Solution (EAS) with the massively scalable and secure Digital Safe to create an archiving solution that offers unprecedented flexibility and functionality.
There are several different configuration options for First Archive, but generally speaking ZANTAZ will setup a mailbox management interface on the customer site that archives data to an off-site repository - where data is stored and administered by ZANTAZ.
Specifically, ZANTAZ EAS is set up on the customer site, where a parent server and child servers - servers that offload messages/documents from email servers - are deployed, as needed. On top of this hardware is a software layer that ensures data is captured, which provides multiple benefits:
- Single-Instance Storage (SIS) - The software layer applies its SIS algorithm to ensure that only a single copy of the message, attachment, or file is stored in the archive with links to all referring instances. This capability works across multiple mail servers, multiple document stores, and multiple .PST/.NSF files.
- PST/.NSF File Management - First Archive also provides automated tools to find, gather, and archive all .PST/.NSF files without user intervention -- including password-protected files. With this solution, messages and attachments from .PST/.NSF files are archived directly, with no interaction with the mail server.
Data captured at the customer site is then sent to an off-site repository - ZANTAZ Digital Safe in this example - where data is indexed, stored, and administered by ZANTAZ.
Finally, once data is stored in the Digital Safe, end users can easily access their email to enhance productivity. This is accomplished - either in small quantities or in large volumes - through their Outlook interface, where they can find what they need with full-text searching. And because data is captured in its native format (e.g., .msg for Exchange), additional data is stored for each message as well, including text formatting and metadata. This enables First Archive to be extended in cases where additional search and retrieval functionality is needed (e.g., for electronic discovery to support a lawsuit) with add-on ZANTAZ modules.
