The legal obligation to preserve potentially relevant electronically stored information (ESI) in the face of litigation is particularly problematic for data residing on employee desktop and laptop machines. These machines collectively contain a very large volume of ESI and are notoriously difficult to control. DLH is the first solution to securely run policy management on the desktop itself, providing an ongoing proactive monitoring of the custodian's machine throughout the life cycle of a matter rather than an occasional snapshot. The case manager uses an intuitive central dashboard to send the legal hold policies out to all of the PCs where they continue to be applied even when the machine is offline, classifying and locking down content as required. In addition to the legal hold and collection capabilities of the product, DLH offers remote forensic features which retrieve and classify information from the "empty space" on the hard drive that is transparent at the operating system level. In this way, versioning, hidden changes and deleted items can be found, preserved and included in the discovery process.

Legal processes such as collection, preservation and review must be defensible under intense scrutiny. DLH includes a comprehensive and fully audited legal hold case management workflow that requires each custodian to explicitly recognize the matter and identify all potential sources of responsive information, including computers, handheld devices, external media and paper documents.
